Only A Light

The day was warm, the town was quiet, just a normal day for people who lived there. Aunna sat at a table next to a window, every now and then she would glance out it looking at the people who walked by and the cars. The room smelt of coffee and fresh pastries, a comforting smell. She slowly tapped her fingers on her coffee cup before taking a sip, she was meeting up with her old friend Nikolai that she hadn't seen in a while. Waiting patiently the waitress asked her for anything else she softly said no and watched her walk away only to turn her gaze back out the window watching the cars.

"Hey Aunna." Nikolai greeted once he walked through the door and sat in front of her. "How have you been?"

Aunna greeted him with a smile. "I've been good how about you?" She asked as she set her cup on the table.

"Well I've been a bit lonely."  Nikolai admitted with a shrug.

Aunna looked at him oddly. "Lonely? What do you mean?" She asked wondering if something had happen between him and Samee.

"Samee has been distant." Nikolai shrugged and tilted his head back.

"Oh i see." Aunna said with a frown. "So has hunter." She added then took a sip of her coffee.

Nikolai rubbed the back of his neck. "You haven't had children?"

Aunna shook her head and frowned once again. "No but i would like some." She shrugged as she glanced down at her coffee.

"He must not be the fatherly type." Nikolai pointed out.

"I guess not, i mean we have talked about it before but i don't know." She said looking up at him. "You and Samee have anymore kids?" She asked.

"Abram Volkov, he's four now, and the newest one, Isabel Volkov."  Nikolai told her a bit proud of his kids. "They're great."

Aunna smiled at him. "Well that's good to hear." She nodded slightly.

"What are you going to do?" Nikolai tilted his head.

Aunna looked at him oddly. "What do you mean?" She asked not understanding his question.

"With Hunter? And about a family." Nikolai reminded her gently.

Aunna blinked slightly. "Keep hoping i guess." She shrugged. "I'm sure he will come around sooner or later." She said with a half smile that slowly faded.

Nikolai grinned and got to his feet. "Sure, whatever floats your boat." He said and gestured her to follow as he got up.

Aunna looked at him oddly as she got up and followed him. "Where are we going?"

"Don't worry just come on." Nikolai said and hopped into the car and began to drive.

Aunna shrugged and got into the car. She glanced at him every now and then as they drove off wondering where they were going.

Nikolai stopped at a house on the edge of the lake. "I take the family here in the summer often." He murmured and looked over at Andrei his brother on the porch relaxing. "You're not at work for once?"

Andrei nodded a greeting to them. "Taking the speed boat and chilling today."

Aunna looked around in awe. She greeted his brother with a smile. "This is nice Nikolai. Samee is lucky to have someone like you."

"You bet she is." Nikolai nodded proudly.

Andrei calmly made his way over fixing his gaze on his brother. "You're not cheating on Samee with this woman are you?"

Aunna quickly shook her her head. "Oh no we are just friends." She explained feeling awkward.
